Cloud Carib and CTU Sign MOU in Support of a Caribbean Single ICT Space

On September 7th, 2022, members of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), the Government of The Bahamas, and Cloud Carib gathered at the CTU ICT Week conference to sign off on an MOU in support of a regional single ICT space. The MOU is a testament to the member states within the CTU and Cloud Carib’s dedication to the region’s vision for a single ICT space and our focus on achieving that vision with each member state before 2030.  

SIDS and youth in focus at regional Internet Governance Forum

The inaugural Internet Governance Forum (IGF) for Small Island Developing States (SIDS-IGF) and the first Internet Governance Forum (IGF) for Caribbean Youth (CY-IGF) are being held from 24-26 August 2022, under the theme, “Internet Governance Priorities for ICT-Driven Development”.

CARICOM Digital skills Taskforce begins series of virtual Consultations

The CARICOM Digital Skills Task Force will begin a series of public virtual Consultations from 7 July to 30 August 2022, from 2pm – 4pm Eastern Standard time, via Zoom.

The Consultations aim to garner perspectives, views, and suggestions about developing a robust digital skills programme for all CARICOM citizens.

Region must develop robust, secure, digital infrastructure to take advantage of fourth Industrial Revolution – CARICOM ICT official

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) must develop a modern, robust and secure digital infrastructure if it is to make the most of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, according to Ms. Jennifer Britton, Deputy Programme Manager, ICT4D, at the CARICOM Secretariat.

“This, coupled with the protection of CARICOM citizens from cybercrime, are key elements for development,” she said.

Ms. Britton was at the time speaking at the recent launch of the Grenada Cyber Security Incident Report Team (CSIRT).

Guyanese team wins first-ever Webby Hackathon award ahead of over 150 countries

A four-man Guyanese team pitched their award-winning solution to tackle illegal logging and deforestation, leading them to win the 5G for Change Hackathon ahead of over 150 countries.

The four Guyanese, under the name “Team Frame Perfect” developed an Artificial Intelligence Sound Monitoring Device programme to tackle the issue of illegal logging in Guyana.
