Promoting Regional Food Security
Caribbean Week of Agriculture 2021Ā will be hosted virtuallyĀ 4-8 OctoberĀ under the themeĀ āTransforming Our Food Systemsā.
Caribbean Week of Agriculture (CWA) was conceptualised by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) as a facility to place agriculture and rural life on the āfront burnerā of regional integration activities and in doing so enable:
CARICOMās Regional Food & Nutrition Security Policy, approved by the Council for Trade & Economic Development (COTED) (Agriculture) in October 2010.
Caribbean agriculture consisted of the production and export of traditional bulk commodities, notably bananas and sugar, as well as rice, coffee and cocoa.
Established in 1975, CARDIās aim is to contribute to agricultural development by conducting research and by exposing farmers and other persons involved in agriculture to appropriate technologies.
In the broad objectives set out in the articles of agreement establishing CARDI, the Institute was charged with providing for the research and development needs of the agriculture of the region as identified in national plans and policies, as well as providing an appropriate research and development service to the agricultural sector of member countries.

The Caribbean Agricultural Health and Food Safety Agency (CAHFSA)Ā contributes to enhanced agricultural health and food safety in the Caribbean Community.
Its primary objectives include regional and national support in establishing,Ā managing and operating nationalĀ agricultural health and food safety systems in accordance with the Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS)Ā Agreement.

The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), is a regional financial institution which was established by an Agreement signed on October 18, 1969, in Kingston, Jamaica, and entered into force on January 26, 1970. The Bank came into existence for the purpose of contributing to the harmonious economic growth and development of the member countries in the Caribbean and promoting economic cooperation and integration among them, having special and urgent regard to the needs of the less developed members of the region (Article 1 of the Agreement establishing CDB).
