The Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE) is an institution of CARICOM with a mandate to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency investments, markets and industries in the Caribbean. CCREEE aims at improving access to modern, affordable and reliable energy services, energy security and mitigation of negative externalities of the energy system (e.g. local pollution and greenhouse gas emissions) by promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency

The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), is a regional financial institution which was established by an Agreement signed on October 18, 1969, in Kingston, Jamaica, and entered into force on January 26, 1970. The Bank came into existence for the purpose of contributing to the harmonious economic growth and development of the member countries in the Caribbean and promoting economic cooperation and integration among them, having special and urgent regard to the needs of the less developed members of the region (Article 1 of the Agreement establishing CDB).

The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Technical Assistance (REETA) is a four year Project funded by the Government of Germany through the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH with a budget of 4.5 Million Euro. The project is headed by Dr. Andreas C. Taeuber and he is ably supported by a team of Energy experts.

The REETA Project collaborates with the CARICOM Energy Programme in rendering support in the areas of Capacity-Building, Private Sector Cooperation and Regional Institutional Support.

The CARICOM Secretariat Energy Programme has initiative an energy efficiency pilot project entitled ā€œBuilding Energy Efficiency Project (BEEP)ā€ with the technical assistance from the GIZ REETA Project. The key objective of the project is to utilise energy more effectively by using less electricity, while maintaining the levels of activity and productivity in the Secretariat. The BEEP is implemented under the guidance of a project board that includes internal and external stakeholders. It is already serving as a role model for similar management interventions throughout the Region.

The Ministry of Industry, International Business, Commerce and Small Business Development (MIICS),Ā the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy EfficiencyĀ (CCREEE) and the United Nations Industrial Development OrganizationĀ (UNIDO)Ā Ā is developing theĀ Global Environmental Facility (GEF) Project ā€œStrategic Platform to Accelerate Sustainable Energy Technology Innovation, Industry Development and Entrepreneurship in Barbadosā€.

In follow-up to the launch of the Caribbean Energy Security Initiative (CESI) in June 2014, the Vice President, Secretary of Energy Moniz, other senior Administration officials, Caribbean Heads of Government, multilateral development banks, and other international partners participated in the Caribbean Energy Security Summit January 26 in Washington, D.C. to work together in support of Caribbean energy security.
