GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – The Guyana government is seeking support for the passage of amendments to the Anti-Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism Act, warning it is in the country’s interest and should supersede political interest. Attorney General and Legal Affairs Minister, Anil Nandlall, in an interview broadcast on the state-owned National Communication Network (NCN), said it is important for the opposition legislators to put aside their political interests and support the legislation.

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – Guyana will host a multi-stakeholder consultation on Tuesday in preparation for the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Adviser to the President on Sustainable Development, Science and Technology, Navin Chandarpal, says participants will discuss various issues including the recommendations from the Barbados Programme of Action (BPOA) and that based on the outcomes of the consultation the national report will be prepared.
The Organisation of Amercan States (OAS) Secretariat through the Caribbean Sustainable Energy Program (CSEP) and the Energy Efficiency Working Group of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA), hosted a workshop on energy efficiency designs for office and public buildings in tropical climates. The event took place at the Bay Gardens Inn in Rodney Bay from February 28th through March 1st, 2013. The CARICOM Secretariat is a Partner of the CSEP Project.
The Governments of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the Cooperative Republic of Guyana on 1 March 2013 signed a Memorandum of Understanding between both countries that seeks to promote greater cooperation in energy and energy related matters over the next two years.

GEORGETOWN, Guyana - Brazil’s ambassador to the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Roberto Azevêdo, is to be approved by acclamation, as the Geneva-based organisation’s new director-general, at next Tuesday’s meeting of its general council.
Dr Azevêdo is only the WTO’s second leader from the developing world in its 18 years of existence.

THE South American country of Guyana is trying to decide what to do with a large quantity of gold it bought from local miners when demand was high. President Donald Ramotar said Saturday that he will meet with advisers to determine when it's best to sell the gold following a recent fall in prices. He declined to say how much gold the Guyana Gold Board had bought from local miners, but miners' association spokesman Tony Shields puts the number at 60,000 ounces. He says the association warned the government about dropping prices.

First in a series, the event was in an effort to get feedback on the documented proposals prior to seeking Cabinet approval of them.
GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Stabroek News -The delivery of health and education is to get a further boost with the arrival of yet another batch of United States Peace Corps volunteers. The American embassy here announced, through a press release, that 30 more Peace Corps trainees arrived in Georgetown today to complement their 35 colleagues already in service. The new trainees will make up the 25th group of Peace Corps volunteers to serve this country and will be officially sworn in on July 3, after completing their pre-service training.
