On September 7th, 2022, members of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), the Government of The Bahamas, and Cloud Carib gathered at the CTU ICT Week conference to sign off on an MOU in support of a regional single ICT space. The MOU is a testament to the member states within the CTU and Cloud Carib’s dedication to the region’s vision for a single ICT space and our focus on achieving that vision with each member state before 2030.  

Concerned about digital inequities and lack of infrastructure standardisation

As we continue our activities in observance of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (May 17) under the theme ‘Accelerating Digital Transformation in Challenging Times’, we sought the views of a sampling of regional youth on the CARICOM Single ICT Space

A short-term plan to fast-track responses to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Region’s digital sphere is to be ready for the approval of CARICOM Ministers of ICT by the end of July.

Community governance, a fixed single CARICOM roaming rate and a unified regional approach were among the key highlights of Chair of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Hon. Mia Amor Mottley, when she addressed the opening of the Thirty-First Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference in Barbados, earlier on 18 February 2020.

The Caribbean Single ICT Space is an ambitious undertaking that will transform the region’s ICT space as we know it. However, as important as that project is, most people have no idea what it is about, or what to expect. To help us get in the know, Jennifer Britton, of the CARICOM Secretariat, explains what the Single ICT Space is all about, shares with us a few of the upcoming milestones, and why it is crucial for the countries of the region to also transition to a digital economy.

Progress on the development of the Single ICT space in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), and cyber security, are among the main areas that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) officials will discuss when they meet on 7 June.

The virtual meeting of officials that will be anchored at the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana, is in preparation for a Special Meeting of Ministers of ICT in the last quarter of this year.

With the vision of the Single Regional ICT space in mind, Staff at the CARICOM Secretariat on Thursday experienced a hands-on demonstration of SmartRoom Guyana, at Guyana’s National Centre for Educational Resource Development (NCERD).

Private sector cooperation and support are pivotal to the successful delivery of the CARICOM Single ICT space.

The development of applications such as the recently launched CXC Connect, is critical to the CARICOM Single ICT Space.
