(Guyana Chronicle) WITH an initial focus on building regional trade relations, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is looking towards the United Arab Emirates (UAE) funding to establish an intra-regional ferry service with Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada and Barbados for the testing phase.

I met the young farmer and his family at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre in Georgetown, Guyana, during the CARICOM Agri Investment Forum and Exposition that Guyana and the CARICOM Secretariat organised. I’d stopped at his booth on the opening day of the event, Thursday 19 May, as I was interested in the broccoli that he was displaying.

Regional leaders have been locked in discussions on what is needed to satisfy the food demand in the Caribbean and Barbados’ Prime Minister Mia Mottley says that leaders have agreed that speedy transportation of produce is a key part of satisfying that demand.

Caribbean Aviation Safety and Security Oversight System- (CASSOS)

CASSOS was formally launched in February 2009 at the Headquarters of the CARICOM Secretariat in Guyana. CASSOS succeeds RASOS, with functions that been redefined and are broader in scope to include all the annexes to the Convention on International Civil Aviation (Chicago, 1944), commonly called ICAO Annexes.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which set out the Association’s main objectives was developed and signed by the Directors of Civil Aviation of Barbados, Belize, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.

Caribbean Development Bank (CDB)

The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), is a regional financial institution which was established by an Agreement signed on October 18, 1969, in Kingston, Jamaica, and entered into force on January 26, 1970. The Bank came into existence for the purpose of contributing to the harmonious economic growth and development of the member countries in the Caribbean and promoting economic cooperation and integration among them, having special and urgent regard to the needs of the less developed members of the region (Article 1 of the Agreement establishing CDB).
