(Trinidad Express) As the midnight deadline for the nomination of a new President neared last night, queries were raised as to whether Justice Anthony Carmona met the constitutional requirements to assume the post.
Attorney General Anand Ramlogan yesterday admitted legal advice was sought from three senior legal luminaries to determine whether Carmona can legally become this country’s next President.
(Trinidad Express) THE TRINIDAD and Tobago Publishers and Broadcasters Association (TTPBA) has criticised Communications Minister Jamal Mohammed for his “dictatorial manner” about the airing of Government programming and says it will be seeking a legal opinion on the matter. TTPBA, in a press release yesterday, expressed “grave concerns” that Mohammed sent letters to TV broadcasters giving a time for programmes to be aired and this was the second occasion he “attempted to dictate a broadcast schedule to the media”.

In addition, Eamon Kearney, a member of the Eastern Caribbean financial advisory team, has questioned why current legislation did not allow confiscating the assets of criminals in Barbados.
KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC - A team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) arrived here on Monday for the latest rounds of negotiations with the Portia Simpson Miller administration. BRADES, Montserrat, CMC – Montserrat police say they have made “significant” progress in anti-smuggling drug operations and border security initiatives over the past few weeks. Deputy Commissioner Bradley Siddell said there have been a number of suspicious marine activities, which has resulted in the recovery of two foreign registered vessels and a large seizure of suspected narcotics. He said several people have been detained under the Immigration Act while four others have been charged with various drug offenses and remanded in custody pending further court appearances.
ST.GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC - Law enforcement authorities here are continuing their investigation into a security breach at Grenada’s Maurice Bishop International Airport where an unauthorized person tried to gain entry to a LIAT aircraft which was parked there overnight. Initial checks revealed that one of the emergency doors had been deployed. LIAT says a thorough assessment will be carried out by the Company’s maintenance team before the aircraft is returned to service. LIAT’s Security Department is assisting the Grenadian authorities in the investigation.
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Police are investigating the disappearance of a significant amount of data on Barbados’s critical oil industry from the Division of Energy and Telecommunications.
In a statement responding to a newspaper report that “millions of dollars worth of seismic data” had been reported missing, the Division of Energy and Telecommunications sais that “the matter in question is now subject to an on-going police investigation” and as a result it “is not in a position to engage in a detailed discussion at this time.

The British High Commission said that the mission will visit Barbados until Thursday before travelling to St. Lucia for a one-day visit.
