I welcome you on behalf of the Directorate of Human and Social Development to this Sixteenth Meeting of the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD).
This has been a very busy year for the Secretariat and the Community. For our Directorate, there have been some outstanding achievements which include two landmark events_
(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) CARICOM Deputy Secretary-General Her Excellency Ambassador Lolita Applewhaite urged regional stakeholders to βtake responsible, mature decisions in the best interest of the Caribbean Region.β
(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Haiti will be at the centre of Caribbean activity from 15-19 October 2007. The 15th Meeting of Ministers of CARIFORUM the Caribbean Forum of African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) States takes place during that week in Port-au-Prince and the Caribbean Community will re-open its Representation Office in Haiti on 19 October.

Carrington has communicated the full support of the Community for Guyana, as it prepares to host the tenth Caribbean Festival of Arts (CARIFESTA X), 22-31 August 2008.

I am extremely pleased today to be the one afforded the opportunity to pay tribute to my friend, Dr Lucy Steward, a national of Trinidad and Tobago and a true Caribbean citizen, who will shortly be demitting office as Registrar of the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), one of our premier institutions and one as old as CARICOM itself.
(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)Β The Sixteenth Meeting of the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), which focussed on Youth and Culture, was convened at Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel, Georgetown, Guyana on 10-12 October 2007 under the theme, Realising the Potential of Youth and Culture in the Development of the Community.
The Hon. Cynthia Forde, Minister of State in the Ministry of Education Youth and Sport, Barbados chaired the Meeting.
