(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Preparations for CARIFESTA X, the Caribbean Community’s premier Festival of the Arts will be one of the key issues high on the agenda of the Eighteenth Meeting of the Regional Cultural Committee (RCC) slated for Havana Cuba, on 8-9 June 2007.

The Bahamas, which has responsibility for hosting CARIFESTA X in August, 2008 will be expected to provide the Meeting with a comprehensive report on the status of preparations for the festival.

Geneva, Switzerland, May 24, 2007_ The Coordinating Director of the Port of Spain-based Caribbean Meteorological Organization (CMO), Mr Tyrone Sutherland, was unanimously re-elected for a second term as the World Meteorological Organisation’s (WMO) Second Vice-President. Mr Sutherland has served on the WMO Executive Council since 1999, and was first elected as a Vice-President in 2003.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Government of St. Lucia has launched HelenInfo, its adaptation of DevInfo 5.0., a mechanism to monitor statistics and indicators. HelenInfo, was launched on 13 April 2007 under a joint collaborative arrangement instituted primarily by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat and UNICEF to strengthen statistical capacity in the area of Social Statistics in the Region, a critical factor being access to data by users for decision-making, policy formulation and research.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Councils for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) and Finance and Planning (COFAP) of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will meet in a joint session from 5-7 June 2007 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

The Joint Meeting will consider a revision of `Towards a Single Economy and a Single Development Vision’, a report done by Professor Norman Girvan.

The Second CARICOM-Cuba Ministerial Meeting took place on 29 May 2007 in Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, under the joint Chairmanship of the Honourable Elvin Nimrod, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Grenada and outgoing Chairman of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations, and His Excellency Mr. Felipe Perez Roque, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba.
