(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The communication and advocacy skills of CARICOM Youth Ambassadors (CYAs) are being sharpened to play a greater role in the Region, particularly in the realm of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).
On January 30, 2006, at an historic ceremony on the UWI Mona Campus, the leaders of six CARICOM countries signed a declaration of compliance with the CARICOM Single Market. They were Barbados, Belize, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago. Six other countries, members of the Organisation of East Caribbean States (OECS), have undertaken to become Single Market compliant no later than June 30 of this year. These are Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent and Grenadines.
(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), their Ministers and officials, as well as other delegates, have begun arriving in Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis for the 27th Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM, and ministerial meetings prior to the Summit.
Salutations I was deeply honoured to receive the invitation extended by President James to be the guest speaker at this important event in the Rotary calendar. I was especially pleased to learn that the theme was_ “Lead the Way”, since leadership means having the opportunity to serve people in a special way. |
