It is crucial that this Government takes the opportunity during this increasingly difficult economic period to reassess its strategy for earning revenue. As such, this administration should be commended on its continued multifaceted approach to grow the economy through the development of the manufacturing, agriculture and especially the tourism industry – the latter being the main revenue earner for the country.

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Apr 12, CMC – Caribbean Forum (CARIFORUM) countries have been urged to take advantage of the standby facility for capacity building under the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) that was signed with the European Union in 2008.

Addressing a Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) organised Technical Briefing Meeting on the EPA Standby Facility for Capacity Building, Clairvair Squires, said the facility is intended to assist CARIFORUM states by underpinning national institutional capacities

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Nation News - Tensions in the Korean Peninsula must be of concern to all of us even though it is on the other side of the world. So much so that uncharacteristically China, North Korea’s only ally, was forced to speak out. China’s new President Xi Jinping, at an economic forum in Hainan Province, though not calling names, said “no one should be allowed to throw a region and even the whole world into chaos for selfish gains”.

This was the assertion coming from Central Bank Governor, Dr. Delisle Worrell, following a contraction in the economic performance of the first quarter of 2013, and with virtually flat projections for the economy. BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Nation News - Grenada’s Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell has made it clear that his country is not pumping any funds into LIAT until the regional airline gets “its act together” and reduces its wastage. Speaking yesterday at a Press briefing at Highgate Gardens, St Michael, Mitchell, who is embarking on his fourth term as leader of the “Spice Isle”, said that LIAT continued to be an inefficient operation. “I will not continue to invest in an operation if it continued to be inefficient and not responsible,” he said.
