BRIDGETOWN, Barbados - Prime Minister Freundel Stuart and leader of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP), says that the best is yet to come from that political party.
His comments came as he spoke yesterday at the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s luncheon at the Hilton Hotel, the first for 2013 and ahead of the mass rally that DLP had planned for last night.

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Jan 30, CMC – The European Union is providing Euro 5.13 million (One Euro =US$1.35 cents) to Montserrat as part of a financial package to the Overseas British territory.
European Union Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Mikael Barfod said the overall package of Euro 15.66 million is to help boost Montserrat’s economic growth and development.
The EU support will primarily assist with the implementation of the Sustainable Development Plan of Montserrat as part of the country's economic recovery.

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC –The opposition People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) says the gun attack which left its general secretary Oscar Clarke hospitalised “is another example of the precarious crime situation which is facing Guyana at the moment”.
Clarke, 74, was shot at least twice after bandits entered his Sophia, Greater Georgetown home on Tuesday night.
In a statement, the PNCR said that Clarke was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) “and is currently in a stable condition”.

PROVIDENCIALS, Turks and Caicos, CMC – The Turks and Caicos Islands government has formally requested the extradition of former premier Michael Misick from Brazil, where he has been in prison since his arrest on December 7 last year.
A brief statement by Attorney General Huw Shepheard, noted that “the formal request” had been lodged with the Brazilian government on Tuesday”.
“The Turks and Caicos Islands’ Chief Magistrate and the acting Attorney General formally certified the papers last week and they were taken to Brazil on Sunday.

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - FORMER EAST Portland Member of Parliament (MP) Sam Lawrence was yesterday remembered by the House of Representatives for his contribution to Jamaica's legislative process. Opposition MP Karl Samuda, who served with Lawrence as MP between 1989 and 1997, and Government member Fitz Jackson, who entered the House in 1994, recalled that Lawrence was instrumental in getting the Cabinet to consider the wishes of the House. Jackson, MP for South St Catherine, said by moving a resolution which was passed by the House, issues from Parliament found their way to Cabinet.

ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) says agriculture minister Michael Denis Lett, who died from prostate cancer on Monday will be remembered for “his selfless dedication to service, his wisdom and patience as a leader (and) his ability to work across the political divide”. It said Grenada would also remember Lett, 74, for his “heroic stand in defense of the people’s right of access to the La Sagesse beach in 1973 and his willingness to sacrifice his freedom in defense of his principles.

BELMOPAN, Belize, CMC - The Belize government Tuesday urged education officials to ensure that schools remained opened and the safety of students assured as the National Trade Union Congress (NTU) announced it would be supporting teachers in the protest action for increased wages. The teachers, led by the Belize National Teachers Union (BNTU), are staging a demonstration in the streets of the capital in support of their demands for a 30 per cent salary adjustment to deal with the high cost of living, which the Dean Barrow government says it is not in a position to meet.

CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CMC - Vice President of the Trade Union Federation (TUF) Cyprian Montroupe says the grouping is disappointment with the progress of the negotiations for a salary increases for public servants given the February 15 deadline. Montroupe said the TUF has written to Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony urging that the government ensure that negotiations progresses smoothly.
