The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), an international institution with responsibility of executing the 10th EDF SPS Project is collaborating with the Caribbean Agricultural Health and Food Safety Agency (CAHFSA) to identify a suitable laboratory to evaluate the quality of cassava flour produced and imported in the region as a first step towards some level of standardization of the product
The objectives of this assignment are as follows_
- -Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â To evaluate cassava flour in the region to determine the baseline quality;
- -Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Develop a standard that facilitates trade in cassava flour.
The contractedlaboratory will be required to_
Conduct a literature search on existing standards for cassava flour used regionally and internationally;
Develop a draft standard for cassava flour in the Caribbean based on the literature review;
Sample and analyze cassava flour from the following four (4) major cassava flour Caribbean producing countries_ Trinidad & Tobago, Suriname, Barbados and Jamaica as well as imported cassava flour using accredited facilities;
Identify gaps, if any, between the quality of the existing cassava flour and the draft standard.
Provide recommendations for closing any gaps identified.
