The day has been singled out to inspire awareness and enhance political attention and action towards the environment. It is an opportunity for many of us living in the developing world to think of our contribution and approach towards making the world a better place for ourselves, our children and grandchildren. This Twenty-Fifth Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) is significant as much for the fact that it is actually taking place, as it is for its ultimate goal in helping to fashion a Caribbean Environment and Natural Resource Policy Framework. This is not an easy task given the multifaceted ambit of environmental issues, its widespread impact on the social and political landscape and on the lives and livelihood of the citizens of the Caribbean, and indeed on the future of the Region as a whole.
