In a brief ceremony held at the Headquarters of the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana, last Thursday (4th September), the Secretary General of CARICOM, Mr. Edwin Carrington received on behalf of the people of the Community a Plaque to mark the distinction of co-operation between the Region, and Japan’s External Trade Organisation. (JETRO).

CHRIST CHURCH, BARBADOS – The Caribbean Regional Negotiating Machinery’s (RNM) Seventh Technical Working Group (TWG) on Agriculture came to a close yesterday. The two-day meeting - convened in Bridgetown, Barbados, July 21 to 22 - provided an overview of agriculture trade negotiations in the World Trade Organization (WTO) and Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA).
MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA – A workshop that brought together a select group of Caribbean journalists and media practitioners, representing broadcast and print media, came to a close today. The two-day meeting entitled_ Regional Workshop on Trade for Journalists/Media Practitioners was convened in Montego Bay, Jamaica, June 30 to July 1, 2003.
MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA – CARIFORUM member states’ senior officials and experts, with responsibility for trade, and specialists from regional and international bodies are meeting in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The four-day meeting will prepare the region for the Fifth World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference in Cancun, Mexico, September 10 to 14. The Ministerial Conference marks the half-way mark for Doha Agenda negotiations launched in Doha, Qatar, November 2001.

A team of Haitian Trade officials will begin a two-week study-tour on Monday 2 June 2003, spending the first week in Georgetown, Guyana, at the Secretariat of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). They will spend the second week in Trinidad & Tobago to complete the familiarisation exercise of the CARICOM machinery particularly as it relates to trade.
Issues pertaining to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) trade and economic agenda will be the focus of two days of deliberations at the Fifteenth Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) which opens in Georgetown, Guyana, tomorrow, 29 May 2003.
COTED is responsible for the promotion of trade and economic development of the Community.
CHRIST CHURCH, BARBADOS – CARIFORUM Ministers, with responsibility for trade, met in Barbados on May 3. The Ministerial followed a Caribbean Trade Experts Meeting and Senior Officials Meeting held between April 28 to 30 and May 1, respectively. The results of these three meetings will refine and deepen thinking in CARIFORUM on what is an appropriate Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) for the Region and will contribute to preparations for Africa Caribbean Pacific (ACP) Council of Ministers Meetings in Brussels scheduled for May 14 to 16.
CHRIST CHURCH, BARBADOS – The Caribbean Regional Negotiating Machinery (RNM) is convening a Technical Consultation on Services to be held in Nassau, Bahamas from March 24 to 25. The Technical Consultation will be followed by a meeting of the CARICOM Working Group on Services Negotiations from March 25 to 26. The Technical Consultation will assist trade officials in formulating regional negotiating positions in certain aspects of the services sector.
