Substance Abuse (Reduction)

Two Regional Workshops to build the capacity of more than 45 participants working with youth and adolescents from the Caribbean Forum (CARIFORUM) of ACP Stateswith problematic drug use, will be held on 4 -9 February, in Trinidad and Tobago.

The CARICOM Secretariat is collaborating with the Executive Secretariat of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) of the Organisation of American States and the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, Ministry of National Security National Drug Council on in this event.

Responding to the increasing calls from the public, NGOs and other stakeholders in the region and amidst the changing global environment, the CARICOM Conference of Heads of Government at its Twenty-Fifth Inter-Sessional Meeting convened in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, 10 -11 March 2014, mandated the establishment of a Commission to interrogate the issue of possible reform to the legal regimes regulating cannabis/ marijuana in CARICOM countries.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Member States are reporting progress in their efforts to reduce the demand for illicit drugs in the Region.

Based on the ten Country reports presented yesterday (3 March) at the regional training workshop on Standards of Care for Treatment and Rehabilitation Facilities for Substance Abusers, in Jamaica, several countries have varying types of care and treatment methods for drug and alcoholic dependents.
