WILLEMSTAD, Curacao - The leader of the largest political party in Curacao's coalition government was shot dead late Sunday in the Punda section of the Dutch island's capital, media reports here said.
Helmin Wiels of the Pueblo Soberano Party (Sovereign People Party) was reportedly shot in a drive-by shooting around 5 pm (2200 GMT).
With his death, the coalition government, with a one-seat hold on power here, has been plunged into crisis.

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, CMC-Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans has expressed disapproval over Suriname’s choice of Errol Alibux for its ambassador to Turkey. “I regret that Suriname has again appointed one of the suspects in the December murder case as ambassador,” Timmermans said on Dutch TV on Wednesday. Liakat Errol Alibux, 65, a Netherlands trained sociologist who in previous Governments served as Foreign Minister, Finance Minister and Natural Resources Minister, was sworn in last week as Suriname’s first non-residing ambassador to Turkey.
