PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - The cross-Caribbean hearings of the Shanique Myrie case have given the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) much-needed and well-deserved prominence as a forum where the average Caricom citizen can seek legal protection and redress. While the CCJ has had some impact on the life of the region, none of the cases that have come before it has excited the public imagination as much as the discrimination and sexual assault case of Shanique Myrie vs Barbados.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
legacy KINGSTON, Jamaica - In death, as in life, Margaret Thatcher remains a hugely divisive political figure_ The tributes from admirers read more like hagiography writings on the lives of saints, rather than biography.
KINGSTON, Jamaica - The recent passing of one of the greatest political leaders of the 20th century was a shock to all who knew of her powerful leadership. Her policies were transformational, redirecting global political thinking and empowering the call for action.
Her mission was a supreme belief in the force of the market and the power of the individual driven by reward for initiative. She reshaped the British economy, pulling it back from the edge of a cliff and promoted other ways to offer social benefits than to rely on welfare.
KINGSTON, Jamaica - For days to come, we can expect virtual saturated international media coverage of Britain's only and longest-serving prime minister of the 20th century, Baroness Margaret Thatcher.
Her unique political leadership style, her bullish toughness as a politician in wielding State power and intimidating dissent, even within her own Conservative party, had earned her the (un)flattering sobriquet 'Iron Lady'.
Haiti MIAMI, CMC - The United States Coast Guard says it has rescued six men rescued off the coast of Haiti.

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados - THE START of this yearās Atlantic hurricane season is less than two months away, but with the predictions from the various forecasters of a very active season, we need to start putting the necessary precautions in place.
We must disabuse our minds of the silly notion that a hurricane will not hit our country, believing that it enjoys the Saviourās special blessings and we can therefore ignore the scientific data being presented by the meteorological experts. Yes, we can stupse and criticize the predictions, but we do so at our own peril.
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - Within a month T&T will open its embassy in Bejing, China, more than 30 years after China established its embassy here in T&T. On June 20, 1974 China established diplomatic relations with T&T and in April of 1975 the embassy was established. Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Dookeran sees no issue in the delay in reciprocating. āIt is all a matter of timing,ā he said.
