(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat Programme Manager for Culture and Community Development, Dr Hilary Brown is of the opinion that the Caribbean needs to do more to strengthen its heritage tourism product.

She believes that “much more could be done” to develop the Region’s natural and built heritage which is an invaluable resource in building Heritage Tourism.

CHRIST CHURCH, BARBADOS – As the Caribbean seeks to diversify its services exports, a clear area of comparative advantage is the culture and entertainment sector. In striving to promote Caribbean interests in this sector in external negotiations the CRNM realized that it was first necessary to get a more precise overview of the cultural industries. Based on consultations with industry stakeholders in 2004, the CRNM commissioned a comprehensive study to provide background on the cultural industries in CARICOM and their position in the global market.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) — The Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) has been granted $2.1 million US from the World Bank through the Global Environment Facility (GEF) to support a pilot adaptation program in three Caribbean Small Island States (Dominica, Saint Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines).

(Caribbean Community Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) Deputy Secretary General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Ambassador Lolita Applewhaite has charged CARICOM Directors of Culture to maintain their role as champions and advocates for the vision of culture in the Region.

This subject will come into sharp focus next week, when the Regional Cultural Committee (RCC) meets at their sixteenth session in Georgetown, Guyana.
