ST JOHN’S, Antigua – An accountant has been appointed to look into the business affairs of companies of former financier R Allen Stanford.
Hordley Forbes of Forbes & Associates, Chartered Accountants, will conduct investigations into Stanford Development Company (SDC) Ltd and three other affiliated companies who are registered owners of property in Antigua.
Attorney General Justin Simon QC on March 5 obtained a court order for the investigation.

The eldest son of deceased father of the nation, Sir Vere Bird Sr, and elder brother of former prime minister, Lester Bird, died of heart failure, just days after being diagnosed with liver cancer.
Remembering his brother, and admitted sometime rival, Lester Bird said it had been “a very good ride” for the siblings who were just two years apart, with Bird Jr being born in 1936.

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Officials in the Ministry of Agriculture are seeking to formulate a national plan for youth to drive further development within the agricultural sector.
The mid-term plan will not only address the current needs of youth involved in the sector, but will also guide them in terms of future advancements.
Director of Agriculture Jedidiah Maxim told OBSERVER media the ministry would be working in tandem with regional organisations, to formulate a comprehensive programme addressing youth in agriculture over the next four to five years.

St. John’s Antigua- The key debate at this year’s OECS Regional Assembly was the implementation of the Free Movement of People and Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer said the nation’s laws in this regard would be solidified in a matter of months. Spencer acknowledged that most of the seven- member states and two associate member- states have yet to implement free movement of the sub-region’s citizenry, but said there is a renewed “commitment” to do just that after the conclusion of the Assembly.
