(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Statistical officials of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) met at the Headquarters of the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana on 2-3 May to discuss the completion of national reports for the 2000 round of census exercises.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) The three-day workshop on Services Statistics convened by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat Statistics Programme with funding from the USAID Caribbean Trade and Competitiveness Programme (CTRADECOM) ended in Barbados on Wednesday 13th April with discussions focussed on the profile of the financial sectors and challenges faced in the compilation of data in the Region.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana)Β Β  Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries gearing for the December 2005 implementation of the CARICOM Single Market (CSM) are steadily focusing on improving their statistical database to ensure the effective flow of information when the CSM takes off. To this end, a three-day workshop under the theme Strengthening Capacity of Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Systems in CARICOM Member States-Improvement of Statistics on Fertility and Mortality got underway in Georgetown on Monday 4 April.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) As 2004 races to a close, Regional Officials are redoubling their efforts to ensure that Member States of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) are adequately equipped with the necessary information tools for the 2005 implementation of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME). To this end, the 29th Meeting of the Standing Committee of Caribbean Statisticians (SCCS) was convened on Monday 22 November in Hamilton, Bermuda and will end on the 24 November 2004

Regional statisticians got together for back-to-back meetings during the past week, November 11-15, 2002 in St. George’s, Grenada to discuss critical issues relating to data collection, compilation and dissemination, in support of national and regional priorities and objectives. The Meetings were convened by the Secretariat of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and hosted by the Government of Grenada.

Caribbean Statisticians are spearheading work on the development of a framework for the Production of Economics Statistics in the region, designed according to the requirements of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME). A Trade Policy Facilitation Project relating to the implementation of Protocol II on the Right of Establishment, Provision of Services and Movement of Capital is among the main areas of their focus.
