KINGSTON, Jamaica - A group representing Belize bondholders said all of its members have agreed to a debt exchange offer that will give the Government nine more years to pay off some of its debt. The Coordinating Committee of Belize Bondholders announced this week that all of its members have agreed to exchange their US dollar-denominated bonds due 2029 for new ones due in 2038.

The regional leaders who ended their 24th Inter-Sessional summit here on Tuesday night., said they had received an update on arrangement being made by the two countries to hold a simultaneous referenda on October 6 this year.

BELMOPAN, Belize, CMC – Police Wednesday charged junior minister Mark King with aggravated assault, use of threatening words and disorderly conduct, following a pre-dawn brawl at a casino in northern Belize over the weekend. King, 38, the junior minister of Human Development and Social Transformation, has been suspended without pay by Prime Minister Dean Barrow. He has also publicly apologised for his behaviour. The first time legislator, who will return to court on April 16, was one of two men who were thrown out of the casino after an altercation involving a member of his entourage.
BELMOPAN, Belize, CMC - The Belize government Tuesday urged education officials to ensure that schools remained opened and the safety of students assured as the National Trade Union Congress (NTU) announced it would be supporting teachers in the protest action for increased wages. The teachers, led by the Belize National Teachers Union (BNTU), are staging a demonstration in the streets of the capital in support of their demands for a 30 per cent salary adjustment to deal with the high cost of living, which the Dean Barrow government says it is not in a position to meet.
SANTIAGO, Chile, CMC – The Organization of American States (OAS) says its Secretary General, José Miguel Insulza, met with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs from Belize and Guatemala on the protracted territorial dispute between both countries. “The meeting's main objective was to exchange information on the tasks that both countries are committed to carry out in preparation for the referenda concerning recourse to the Court of the Hague Convention on the territorial issue,” said a statement from the OAS.
BELIZE CITY, Belize, CMC - The government of Prime Minster Dean Barrow has offered police protection for former Prime Minister Said Musa.
This follows an incident on Tuesday in which multiple gunshots were fired into the Belize City home of the veteran parliamentarian.
Musa told reporters here that late Tuesday, he and his wife had just retired to bed, when they heard the gunshots ring out.
BELMOPAN, CMC – Police were Wednesday searching for the gunmen who fired several shots at the home of former prime minister Said Musa on Tuesday night. Police Press Officer Raphael Martinez said that Musa and family were safe and unhurt and that several shots had been fired at the house in Belize City around 10.pm (local time). “A total of 5 nine millimeter expended shells were recovered from the scene,” a police statement said, adding that “the front door and the glass on the rear passenger door of a vehicle in the yard” were damaged.
BELMOPAN, Belize, CMC – Prime Minister Dean Barrow has confirmed holding talks with the leaders of a notorious criminal gang here after four men were found murdered in an apartment building on Tuesday.
Barrow told reporters that he led a delegation that included National Security Minister John Saldivar for talks with the leaders of the George Street Gang and said that an arrangement had been reached for them to leave the area and not seek to retaliate against people they believe committed the murders.
