(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) June 26 is International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, and CARICOM Member States are embarking on a series of activities to mark the day.
The CARICOM Secretariat in collaboration with the Directors of National Councils on Drug Abuse is leading the way with the development of activities to sensitise the public - specifically women - about the negative ripple effects of drug trafficking.
(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Plans to establish the Caribbean Regional Public Health Agency (CARPHA) are moving full speed ahead as regional Health Ministers gave the green light to the Steering Committee to step up its legal and operational processes in making CARPHA a reality by 2010.
(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community is intensifying efforts to contain the spread of the H1N1 Virus popularly known as Swine Flu within the Caribbean, with the most recent initiative being the strengthening of national laboratories with PCR equipment and relevant training of lab staff to enhance testing capabilities in identifying the HINI virus.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) It is the duty of the Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM) Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) to provide strategic leadership in health and education in the face of the challenges posed by global crises.
(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ministers of Health and Education will be involved in two meetings in Montego Bay, Jamaica next week.
First they will convene the Eighteenth Meeting of the CARICOM Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) and then will meet with their Latin American counterparts to in preparation for a meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
The Caribbean Community Secretariat is seeking to empower CARICOM Member States to tackle more effectively the worsening illicit drug problem within the Caribbean through the development and subsequent implementation of National Anti Drug Strategies and Plans.
(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Regional Meeting on Standards of Care for Treatment and Rehabilitation Facilities for Substance Abusers rolled out an ambitious timeline for the completion of its first handbook that will establish the standards for practitioners in drug treatment and care facilities in the Region.
