BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Opposition Leader Owen Arthur is warning of a “fiscal cliff” in Barbados and accuses the Freundel Stuart government of putting the country in that crisis. Addressing a political meeting of his Barbados Labour Party (BLP) on Sunday night, Arthur, who is seeking to regain the government he lost in 2008, said that the decision of the government to call the general election so late could have an effect on the economy particularly as it relates to the government’s Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure.

At a spot meeting in Amity Lodge, Christ Church last night Owen Arthur responded to comments made on the political platform by Minister of Finance Christopher Sinckler at the presentation of the Democratic Labour Party ( DLP) candidates at Passage Road, St. Michael on Wednesday night.

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – The main opposition Barbados Labour Party (BLP) continued its criticism of the Freundel Stuart government as it urged supporters to ensure the defeat of the ruling Democratic Labour Party (DLP) in the February 21 general election. BLP leader, Owen Arthur, addressing a public meeting in the heart of the capital on Monday night, said that the island deserves better than the “failed government” now in power since it has failed the country in five years. “It is clear this is a broken Government. This is a failed government.

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – The main opposition Barbados Labour Party (BLP) has launched its campaign for the February 21 general elections promising voters strong leadership to deal with the island’s socio-economic problems over the next five years. BLP leader and former prime minister Owen Arthur Saturday night told party faithful that he was offering “a leadership that has been tried, leadership that has been tested and leadership that has been proven”.

It is my distinct honour to address the people of the Caribbean Community and of Cuba as we celebrate another CARICOM-Cuba day on this the 35th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and four CARICOM Member States, namely Barbados, Jamaica, Guyana Trinidad and Tobago. Since that historic day in 1972, the bonds of friendship and solidarity have deepened significantly to incorporate a high level of collaboration in the political, economic and social spheres.
