Ramdin of Suriname for the position of Assistant Secretary General of the Organisation of American States at elections to be held during the XXXV Meeting of the General Assembly of the Organisation of American States in June 2005 His candidature was endorsed by the CARICOM Heads of Government at their Twenty Fourth Conference held in July 2004.

This subject will come into sharp focus next week, when the Regional Cultural Committee (RCC) meets at their sixteenth session in Georgetown, Guyana.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is deeply concerned by the deteriorating health and worrisome judicial situation which have developed with regard to Mr. Yvon Neptune, the former constitutional Prime Minister of Haiti. On 27 June 2004, Mr. Neptune voluntarily turned himself in following the issue of an arrest warrant. Mr. Neptune is yet to be brought to trial. Not even the first step in prosecuting him has been fulfilled. Haiti's constitution requires that a judge confirm a detention within 48 hours.

Good afternoon. It is a pleasure in these brief Opening Remarks to welcome you all to this Nineteenth Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED). I hope that your journey here was comfortable and without undue stress or harassment.
A Special Meeting of Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ministers responsible for National Security and Law Enforcement was held in Trinidad and Tobago, 10-11 May 2005. The Meeting was convened at the request of the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, the Hon. Patrick Manning, Lead CARICOM Head of Government for Crime and Security who also chaired the Meeting.
