The Organisation of Amercan States (OAS) Secretariat through the Caribbean Sustainable Energy Program (CSEP) and the Energy Efficiency Working Group of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA), hosted a workshop on energy efficiency designs for office and public buildings in tropical climates. The event took place at the Bay Gardens Inn in Rodney Bay from February 28th through March 1st, 2013. The CARICOM Secretariat is a Partner of the CSEP Project.

Ramdin to be the next Assistant Secretary General of the OAS.

.(CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community reiterates its support for the candidature of Ambassador Albert R. Ramdin of Suriname for the position of Assistant Secretary General of the Organisation of American States at elections to be held during the XXXV Meeting of the General Assembly of the Organisation of American States in June 2005 His candidature was endorsed by the CARICOM Heads of Government at their Twenty Fourth Conference held in July 2004.

Mr. Chairman, Ambassadors, Members of Delegations. . . .

I want to discuss with you how the CARICOM region views the issue of regional security, the approaches the region is taking in respect to its application, and the problems which impact it at this current historical period.

Let me, first of all, give a historical perspective of some aspects regarding the evolution of the traditional form of military security for the protection of sovereignty in the CARICOM region.

1. The Caribbean Community has been engaged with Haiti for a long time, as that country is part of the Caribbean sub-region. Haiti has also applied for full membership of the Caribbean Community and Common Market.

2. CARICOM Heads of Government have agreed to the establishment of a CARICOM Office in Haiti to support Haiti´s membership of the Community and I am pleased to inform that that staff will leave Georgetown this week-end to commence operations of that office, which will be housed in the Embassy of The Bahamas in Haiti.
