It was with great sadness that the Caribbean Community learnt of the death of the Honourable Phillip Stanley Wilberforce Goldson, former Minister of Government of Belize, on Wednesday October 3, 2001 at 78 years of age.

On behalf of the Caribbean Community, the Staff of the CARICOM Secretariat and on my own behalf, I wish to extend deepest condolences to the Government and People of Belize on the passing of an elder statesman who came to be regarded as a National Icon, a Symbol of Heroism and hailed as a Belizean Patriot.
