The Executive Management Committee of the CARICOM Secretariat will be in Retreat at the Mt Irvine Bay Hotel, Tobago on April 8 and 9, 1998.

The Committee comprises the Secretary-General, the Deputy Secretary-General, the three Assistant Secretaries-General and the General Counsel.

The CARICOM Audit Team selected under the terms of the Herdmanston Accord to undertake an audit of the December 15 Guyana national elections is now fully engaged in the counting of ballots cast.

A range of matters relating to the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), progress towards a CARICOM Single Market and Economy, and external negotiations were essential focal points during a press conference hosted by the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown on Tuesday.

The arrival of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Audit team has been rescheduled for Tuesday 17 March, 1998.

The meetings with the political parties which contested the December 1997 elections will commence in Georgetown on 19 March 1998.

The CARICOM team to undertake the independent audit of the December 1997 elections in Guyana will arrive in Guyana on Friday 13th March in order to commence their work. The team was appointed last month by the Chairman of the Caribbean Community, Dr. the Honourable Keith Mitchell, and will spend next Monday and Tuesday in discussions with representatives of the political parties in Guyana.

March 8, 1998 marks the eighty-fourth year that the world will be commemorating International Women's Day. As we, in the Caribbean, take pride in the progress we have made in furthering the objective of regional integration and prepare to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Chaguaramas this July, we must also take stock of progress in moving our Region towards the imperative of gender equality and social justice.
