A high-level delegation from the East African Community (EAC) Secretariat comprising of senior officials from Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda was scheduled to arrive last evening on a two-day visit in the country.
One of the main objectives of the study tour is to learn from the experiences of other institutions in regional economic integration, especially regarding their own efforts at achieving internal free trade and the establishment of a Customs Union.
On Thursday the Regional HIV/AIDS task force will convene it'sĀ fifth meeting with the specific objective of formulating the plan of action for the European Commission-funded project aimed at strengthening the institutional response to HIV/AIDS/STI in the Caribbean. This meeting, which will be held at the Hilton Hotel in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, is also the first of the project advisory group.
Heads of Government of CARICOM and CANADA, at their Sixth Summit Meeting in Montego Bay, Jamaica on January 19, 2001, were briefed by the Government of Guyana on the controversy between Guyana and Venezuela.
The Heads of Government noted that the Government of Venezuela continued to make claims to Guyana's territory.

The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia Dr. the Hon. Kenny Anthony and CARICOM Head of Government with responsibility for Justice and Governance will be arriving in Guyana this Sunday October 29, 2000.
During his three-day visit, Dr. Anthony will meet with H.E. Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo, President of the Republic of Guyana, Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Desmond Hoyte and CARICOM Secretary-General Mr. Edwin Carrington.
Prime Minister, Dr. the Hon. Kenny D. Anthony in his capacity as CARICOM Head of Government with responsibility for spearheading CARICOM's support to the process of political normalisation in Guyana, today held discussions with CARICOM Secretary-General, Edwin Carrington in Castries Saint Lucia, on the status of implementation of the Herdmanston Accord and the Saint Lucia Statement - the two agreements to which CARICOM and the two major political parties in Guyana, the PPP/Civic and the PNC, are signatories.
The Seventh Regular Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) was held at the Headquarters of the Community on 8 October 1999. The Meeting was very positive and reached a number of important conclusions.

The good relations between Canada and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) were once again demonstrated when that country made a presentation of 100,000 Canadian Dollars to assist in the work of the constitutional reform process in CARICOM Member State, Guyana.
At a simple ceremony on Thursday, 9 September, at the CARICOM Secretariat's Headquarters in Georgetown, Guyana , H.E. Mr. Kamoji Wachiira, High Commissioner (Acting) of Canada to Guyana presented the cheque to CARICOM Secretary-General, Mr. Edwin Carrington.
