(CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat through the Belize-based Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) is currently spearheading talks with the Government of Japan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the development of a master plan for fisheries and aquaculture development in the Caribbean. (CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) The second meeting of the Preparatory Committee (PrepCom-2) of the Tunis Phase of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) ended in Geneva, Switzerland, with participants endorsing their support for the establishment of a Digital Solidarity Fund for the development of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). The fund will be officially launched in Geneva this month, and is intended to transform the digital divide into digital opportunities for developing countries.

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat joins the people of the Caribbean in mourning the passing this week of two great West Indians who contributed significantly to the development of Caribbean society - Dr. Alistair Hughes, outstanding Grenadian journalist and Hon. Allan Rae O.J., Jamaican attorney-at-law and former West Indian opening batsman and cricket administrator.
