(CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Prime Minister of Saint Lucia Dr the Honourable Kenny Anthony today (Thursday 3 July 1998) accepted what he described as an "extraordinary" gift for the continued support of the Regional Negotiating Machinery (RNM) of the Caribbean Community.

In signing the `Herdmanston Accord' on 17 January 1998, the Leaders of Guyana's two main political Parties stated that they are doing so `specially mindful of the willingness of (their) CARICOM colleagues to remain engaged with Guyana in this endeavour'. It is in this spirit that as colleagues we have taken the opportunity of our St. Lucia Summit, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of CARICOM, to initiate a dialogue with them on the current situation in Guyana - conscious of our own full participation as signatories to the `Herdmanston Accord'.

Four distinguished nationals of the Caribbean Community will be accorded the highest regional award in the Order of the Caribbean Community (OCC) at the opening of the X1X Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community at the National Cultural Centre, Castries, Saint Lucia. The Meeting takes place from 30 June -4 July.

The President of the Republic of South Africa, His Excellency Mr Nelson Mandela has accepted an invitation from the Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Dr the Hon Keith Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada to attend the XIX Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community.
The Legal Affairs Committee convened its Second Special Meeting in Georgetown, Guyana, from 2-5 June 1998 under the distinguished chairmanship of the Hon. Charles Ramson S.C.,M.P, Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs of Guyana.
I wish to correct an error in the final paragraph of Page 29 of the Report of the CARICOM Audit Commission.
The figures appearing in the table at page 29 were from an earlier computer print out and did not include additional ID cards captured later in the process. The statement in the Report therefore that "a significant number of electors voted without voter ID cards" is incorrect. Not all sourced documents were put into the computer. The figure for ID cards for Region 6 is approximately 69,000 instead of the approximate figure of 42,000 mentioned in the report.
