Thank you for the invitation to address this Commencement Ceremony of the University of the West Indies. For me this holds particular significance, since I have very fond memories of my time at the Department of Natural Sciences from 1968 to 1971.

It is certainly a pleasure for me to be here in Guyana at this very important Meeting. I bring you greetings from the Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago.

It is my pleasure to be here at this Ninth Meeting of COHSOD, which focuses on labour issues in the context of human resource development in the Caribbean. However, let me first of all extend the apologies of the Hon Walter Sandriman, Minister of Education and Community Development of the Government of the Republic of Suriname who is the outgoing Chair of COHSOD, and who is unable to be here today because of other official commitments.
It is my pleasure to welcome you all on behalf of the Directorate of Human and Social Development. Our Directorate has worked assiduously over the past year to support the flagship activity of the Community, which is the accelerated implementation of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy. Many of the activities in which we have been engaged are being discussed at this meeting. |
