It is a distinct pleasure to welcome you to this Seventeenth Special Meeting of the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) convened under the Theme – Promoting Health, Education, Inclusion and Development through Sport.

The 27th Olympiad memories of the sterling performances and monumental achievement of the Region’s athletes remain fresh in our hearts and minds. And now the Region’s cricketers have added to this sense of euphoria by their resounding victory at the World T20 Championships.

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM), of which the Republic of Haiti is an integral part, welcomes this Regional Coalition for Water and Sanitation to Eliminate Cholera in the Island of Hispaniola.

This initiative further consolidates efforts at addressing the public health challenge of the cholera epidemic which followed the devastating earthquake experienced by Haiti in January 2010.

For 2012 we are focusing on addressing the prevention and control of Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) among the Regions’ children.
