I am extremely pleased today to be the one afforded the opportunity to pay tribute to my friend, Dr Lucy Steward, a national of Trinidad and Tobago and a true Caribbean citizen, who will shortly be demitting office as Registrar of the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), one of our premier institutions and one as old as CARICOM itself.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)Â The Sixteenth Meeting of the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), which focussed on Youth and Culture, was convened at Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel, Georgetown, Guyana on 10-12 October 2007 under the theme, Realising the Potential of Youth and Culture in the Development of the Community.
The Hon. Cynthia Forde, Minister of State in the Ministry of Education Youth and Sport, Barbados chaired the Meeting.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The groundbreaking CARICOM Heads of Government Summit on NCDs opened in Port-of-Spain, with a strong call from the Keynote Speaker the Hon. Dr Denzil Douglas, Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis and the Lead Head of Government with responsibility for Health, in the Quasi Cabinet of CARICOM, to implement appropriate legislation, fiscal and regulatory measures and promote public/private sector partnerships to stem the tide of the NCDs.
(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The curtain came down on the landmark Summit on Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (CNCDs) on Saturday, 15 September 2007, with the adoption of a fourteen-point declaration committing Heads of Government to collective action to stop the epidemic of Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases.
(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Twelfth Caribbean Community-Japan Consultation was held at the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat on 9 August 2007. The CARICOM delegation was led by Ambassador Elisabeth Harper, Director General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Guyana and Ambassador to the Caribbean Community and Japan by His Excellency Ambassador Koichiro Seki, Representative of the Government of Japan to the Caribbean Community.
(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)Â Â Ministers of Trade of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and of the Republics of El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama today launched free trade negotiations in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. The negotiations which will build on the existing free trade agreement between CARICOM and Costa Rica are intended to result in an agreement that would deepen and strengthen trade and economic relations between the two sub-regions.
The Twenty-Eighth Regular Meeting of the Conference of The Conference of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) was held in Needham’s Point, Barbados, from 1-4 July 2007. The Right Honourable Owen Arthur, Prime Minister of Barbados, presided.
The Second CARICOM-Cuba Ministerial Meeting took place on 29 May 2007 in Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, under the joint Chairmanship of the Honourable Elvin Nimrod, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Grenada and outgoing Chairman of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations, and His Excellency Mr. Felipe Perez Roque, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba.
