Organisation of Easter Caribbean States (OECS)

CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CMC – Trade officials from the sub-regional organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) have started a weeklong workshop aimed at enhancing their capacity to formulate effective trade policies and boost participation in regional and international trade negotiations. The event is being jointly hosted by the London-based Commonwealth Secretariat and the OECS and has attracted participation from Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, the British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

CARIBBEAN CONCERNED OVER EC SUGAR REFORM PROPOSALS Steep Price Cuts to have Devastating Effect on Region’s Fragile Economies CHRIST CHURCH, BARBADOS – The European Commission unveiled plans Wednesday (June 22) for an overhaul of the Common Market Organisation for sugar. The Commission reform proposals cut guaranteed prices, totalling 39 percent in the price of white sugar over a period of four years.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) A high level team from the Caribbean is participating in an international meeting on the sustainable development of Small Island Developing States (SIDS), which opened in Mauritius on Monday, January 10, 2005.  Prime Minister of Barbados, The Right. Hon. Owen Arthur; St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister, Hon. Denzil Douglas; and Deputy Prime Minister of Belize, Hon. John Briceno are expected to join the Regional team on Tuesday, January 11.

CHRIST CHURCH, BARBADOS – In an historic collaboration with the Caribbean Regional Negotiating Machinery (RNM), the International Cooperation Agency of Chile (AGCI) has coordinated and arranged the delivery of a ‘CARICOM Regional Training Seminar’ to be convened in Montego Bay, Jamaica, October 20 to 23. The Seminar is entitled_ “International Negotiations, Free Trade Agreements and its Impact in Export Promotion_ The Chilean Experience”.
