A launch of the interest clusters on technology deployment roadmaps for islands and power grid integration on islands under the Global Renewable Energy Islands Network (GREIN) initiative, established at the Third Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) was held in Auckland, New Zealand on 24 March 2013.

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat received grant funding from the Inter-American Development Bank to support the development of the Caribbean Sustainable Energy Roadmap and Strategy (C-SERMS).
A workshop highlighting the main achievements of the Austrian Development Agency’s (ADA) support and to mark the end of the ADA Project component was held in the Dominican Republic on 5 March 2013 at the Office of the National Energy Commission (CNE).
CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)Â Â Â Â Â Ministers of Energy of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on Friday afternoon characterized a Meeting in Port of Spain, as historic, given their approval of the Regional Energy Policy that will guide the Community in its pursuit of energy efficiency and renewable energy.
The approval of the policy was the highpoint of the Forty-First Special Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) on Energy held at the Hyatt Regency.
The overall objectives of the Workshop were to garner feedback and finalize the Study being done to establish Regional sustainable energy targets, as well as, to build awareness about the process going forward to fully establish the C-SERMS. Approximately Sixty persons were in attendance including Senior Energy Officials, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives from the public and private sectors of CARICOM Member States, regional Universities and technical experts.

In March 2013, the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE ) commenced the Executive Development Program on Energy Planning (EDPEP) that targets energy professionals from Government and private sector agencies, Universities and Research Institutes, as well as, Consultants. The broad objective of the Program is to update and improve the knowledge and skills of professionals in issues related to energy planning in countries of the Latin American and Caribbean Region.
The IDEAS Energy Innovation Contest is funded by Inter American Development Bank, DFID, and is being jointly implemented by IDB and Global Village Energy Partners International (GVEP-I).The contest was first staged in 2009 in Latin America and the Caribbean and saw 3 winners from CARICOM Region. For this the second staging greater emphasis is being placed on Caribbean Region. A number of mini-launches is being done across the CARICOM countries in Haiti, St Lucia, Guyana and Suriname, for this second staging.
