(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) A Special Meeting of the Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM) Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) will be held in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, on 18 September 2008, to discuss Tourism and Transportation/Civil Aviation.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Twenty–Ninth Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) opens in St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda on Tuesday 1, July 2008, with an agenda replete with critical issues.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Deeper levels of functional cooperation in tourism, re-branding of the Region’s tourism product to reflect its diversity, and Transportation, will be prime areas of focus when Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) meet in a special session devoted to Tourism during the Twenty-Ninth Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government  in Antigua and Barbuda, 1-4 July 2008.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Caribbean countries hosting Cricket World Cup (CWC) 2007 are duty bound to ensure that measures are in place to safeguard nationals and visitors alike, hence the enactment of measures that go beyond national concerns.

This was underscored by Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation of Saint Lucia, Senator Allan Chastenet when he addressed European tour operators at a special forum at the Caribbean Hotel Association (CHA) annual trade show Marketplace in Aruba on Sunday 14 January, 2007.

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has received the assurances of the Government of Italy's representative in the Region that Information and Communications Technology (ICT) are among the areas in which Italy is interested in increased cooperation with CARICOM. While giving this commitment to the Secretary-General of CARICOM, His Excellency Mr. Edwin Carrington on Monday (July12), Italy's Plenipotentiary Representative to CARICOM, His Excellency Mr. Gerardo Carante proposed a mechanism of consultations between CARICOM and Italy on all matters of common interest.

Caribbean governments have agreed to implement an aggressive advertising programme to get tourism, the main foreign exchange earner for a number of countries, back on track following the decline in arrivals after the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States.

This was a major decision emerging from the Summit on Tourism held at Atlantis Resort, Paradise Island, The Bahamas 8-9 December 2001, under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister of The Bahamas, Rt. Hon Hubert Ingraham.

In less that two months, CARICOM Heads of Government are once again meeting in The Bahamas, this time for a Tourism Summit on 8-9 December at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island, The Bahamas.
