Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) have a packed agenda before them for the upcoming 25th Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM, which runs from July 4 through July 7 in Grande Anse, Grenada. High on the agenda will be a focus on the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), which is geared towards creating a single economic space among CARICOM States; as well as the challenges facing the regional sugar industry.

CHRIST CHURCH, BARBADOS – A Caribbean delegation of trade experts led by the Honourable Minister of Trade in the Republic of Guyana, Clement Rohee, has left the region for Geneva this week to participate in what is shaping up to look like one of the most crucial turning points to date in the WTO talks.
Subsequent to the release on July 16 of a WTO draft framework agreement setting out the terms for the Doha round, critical issues still remain unresolved as Members have failed to substantially narrow the differences in positions on a number of these issues.
In keeping with the decision taken by Heads of Government at their 25th Regular Meeting in Grenada 4-7 July, the 18th meeting of the Bureau of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will be held at Grand Anse, Grenada on Wednesday (July 28) to receive the report of the CARICOM Ministerial team which visited Haiti earlier this month. The Bureau is comprised of the Chairman (The Prime Minister of Grenada), the Outgoing Chairman (The Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda), the Incoming Chairman (The President of Suriname), and the Secretary General.

Saturday, 24 July 2004 will, no doubt, be a special day for a number of Guyanese senior citizens and Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat staff as they, under the theme Remembering and Honouring the Elderly, celebrate the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the Community.
The Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), His Excellency Edwin W. Carrington has been awarded the third highest National Honour of Guyana - the Cacique Crown of Honour (CCH). The Honour was bestowed on Mr. Carrington on Friday (July 23) by the President of Guyana, His Excellency Bharrat Jagdeo during an investiture ceremony at the Office of the President attended by representatives of the Judiciary, Members of the Cabinet of Guyana and staff of the CARICOM Secretariat.

Members of staff of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat met in a two-day retreat in Georgetown, Guyana on Tuesday and Wednesday (July 20-21) to devise strategies to assist the Organisation to more effectively and efficiently serve the Region and its people. The retreat was part of an organisational change and refocusing exercise, which is being undertaken in several phases at the Georgetown-based Secretariat that serves as the implementation arm of the 15-member Regional Grouping.
