Regional Governments and their international partners are moving to establish a comprehensive development programme in agriculture for the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). This comes against the background of their recognition that the sector continues to play a critical role in the economies of CARICOM Member States. Government Ministers representing a range of portfolios which impact on trade and development in the Region are convening the 17th meeting of the CARICOM Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) in Trinidad and Tobago 16-17 June 2004.
Nicolette Boatswain, a Guyanese student of Bishop's High School captained her team to victory in the final round of the Regional Quiz Competition held in Georgetown, Guyana in early June. Boatswain, along with team members Mariscia Charles and Jamal La Rose of St Joseph's High defeated St. Kitts and Nevis to gain the top spot in the competition.

We, the Ministerial Representatives responsible for trade, meeting in Georgetown, Guyana, on the 3rd and 4th June, 20041, examined the state of progress in the negotiations in the World Trade Organisation [WTO] based on the mandates of the Fourth and Fifth Ministerial Conferences held at Doha and Cancun respectively with a view to identifying common elements for a G90 platform as a contribution to the G90 Ministerial Meeting scheduled in Mauritius on 12-14 July 2004;
It is a great honor to have been invited to participate in this UNEP sponsored "English-Speaking Caribbean Chief Justices Meeting on Environmental Law" in the beautiful surroundings of Braco, Trelawny, and I sincerely hope that my detention yesterday in Georgetown on the vexing matter of helping to develop a CARICOM Common Fisheries Policy and Regime did not inconvenience the Meeting too much.
