The Eighth Caribbean Festival for the Creative Arts (CARIFESTA) will be held in Suriname during the second half of next year. The host country, which holds the regional quasi-cabinet portfolio for Culture is going all out to ensure the success of the Festival scheduled for 25-30 August 2003.
After ten days of intensive discussions on a variety of issues related to youth empowerment, Hon. Walter Sandriman, Minister of Education and Community Development of Suriname brought the Caribbean Regional Youth Ambassador Conference to a close. In his address, the Minister placed emphasis on the role of leadership in the Region and noted that success hinged on challenging or accepting the current process, initiating change, enabling regional development and encouraging other youth towards positive goals for strengthening the Caribbean as a Region.
We, the CARICOM Youth Ambassadors meeting in Paramaribo, Suriname between 19-27 August 2002;
Recognising the high expectations of our performance as representatives of the National Youth Organisations and our obligations to the youth of this Region,
Considering the priorities of the Community established by the Conference of CARICOM Heads of Government and the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) for intersectoral approaches to youth development.
The Caribbean Community today, 22 August 2002, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the William J Clinton Presidential Foundation in support of the Region's continuing efforts of fighting the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
The MOU recognises the commitment of CARICOM Member States to fighting the HIV/AIDS epidemic through integrated treatment care and prevention programmes, which has seen the adoption of a comprehensive strategy and road map for implementing the Regional treatment and care strategy.
