​(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)  It is for me a privilege to exchange views with youth of the CARICOM and UNASUR in this first ever High Level Youth Exchange. I would like to congratulate both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs for making this exchange happen here in my beloved country.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Let me start by welcoming you all here today to this the Fifteenth Meeting of the COFCOR, in the pleasant surroundings of Paramaribo. As usual, the host country has left no stone unturned to put excellent arrangements in place to facilitate the conduct of our business. For this we are grateful to the Government and people of Suriname.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ambassador Irwin LaRocque deemed the Surinamese Youth programmes as a regional Best Practice.

On the second day of his official visit to Suriname, the Secretary-General was brought up to date on the activities and plans of Surinamese youth and was particularly impressed by the exciting programmes outlined to him by the CARICOM Youth Ambassadors (CYA) at a meeting in Paramaribo on Tuesday 13 December.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Pan Caribbean Partnership against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP) in collaboration with the German Technical Cooperation Agency (GIZ), EPOS Health Management (EPOS) and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) will host a Roundtable under the theme “How to Improve Access to HIV Services for Migrants in the Caribbean” at the 2011 Caribbean HIV and AIDS Conference (CHIV) in The Bahamas.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) End violence against women was the clear message that resonated with speakers at the opening ceremony of the Caribbean artistes UNITE-ing against Gender Based Violence workshop in Paramaribo, Suriname on Monday, 18 July, 2011.

The workshop was organized in tandem with UN Women to train Caribbean artistes to raise awareness on gender based violence and promote positive attitudes and behaviour towards a more gender sensitive community through the use of edutainment.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Young people between the ages of 14 – 25 across the Caribbean have at least one thing in common – they have big dreams and aspirations not just for themselves, but also for the future of the Caribbean Community as a safe and secure environment in which Caribbean Youth are empowered to participate and to achieve, as they assert themselves in the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).

SURINAMESE DIPLOMAT ELECTED AS NEXT OAS ASSISTANT SECRETARY GENERAL CHRIST CHURCH, BARBADOS – Director General of the Caribbean Regional Negotiating Machinery (RNM) Ambassador Dr. Richard Bernal welcomed the election Tuesday evening (June 7) - on the occasion of the XXXV Meeting of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida - of Ambassador Albert R. Ramdin to be the next Assistant Secretary General of the OAS.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) The six-member CARICOM Electoral Observer Mission mounted at the invitation of the Government of the Republic of Suriname to monitor the conduct of that country's General Elections on 25 May is now on the ground in Suriname.

Issues pertaining to culture, youth and sport will be the focus of deliberations of the Eighth Meeting of the Caribbean Community’s Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD), from 24-26 April 2003, at the Torarica Hotel in Paramaribo, Suriname.
