The Third Quarterly Meeting of the Project Management Group (PMG) of the European Union-funded project for "Strengthening the Institutional Response to HIV/AIDS/STI in the Caribbean" will be held in Trinidad and Tobago from 17-18 January, 2002.

CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting in Nassau, The Bahamas, on 8-9 December 2001 with regional and international stakeholders of the regional tourism industry learnt with consternation that yet another shipment of nuclear waste is currently being shipped through Caribbean waters via the Panama Canal.

Caribbean governments have agreed to implement an aggressive advertising programme to get tourism, the main foreign exchange earner for a number of countries, back on track following the decline in arrivals after the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States.

This was a major decision emerging from the Summit on Tourism held at Atlantis Resort, Paradise Island, The Bahamas 8-9 December 2001, under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister of The Bahamas, Rt. Hon Hubert Ingraham.

The CARICOM Electoral Observer Mission was mounted, at the invitation of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, to monitor the conduct of the General Elections on 10 December, 2001.
