Having already established a Single Market for intra-regional trade in goods, the Caribbean Community has taken a significant step towards the creation of a Single market for Services, Capital and the Establishment of Businesses by CARICOM Nationals.

Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) signed four Instruments at their Thirteenth Inter-Sessional Meeting in Belize City, Belize to fast track the full implementation of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).  The Instruments signed were_ Protocol on the Provisional Application of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas, Agreement Establishing the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism, Agreement Establishing the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre, Agreement Establishing the CARICOM Regional Organisation for Standards and Quality (CROSQ).

Officials and Ministers of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED), one of the chief organs of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), meet in Guyana on 23-25 January, to deliberate on a host of trade related and economic issues affecting the regional integration movement.

The COTED Officials will first meet on 23-24 January at the Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel to set the agenda for the Ministerial session on 25 January.

Caribbean governments have agreed to implement an aggressive advertising programme to get tourism, the main foreign exchange earner for a number of countries, back on track following the decline in arrivals after the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States.

This was a major decision emerging from the Summit on Tourism held at Atlantis Resort, Paradise Island, The Bahamas 8-9 December 2001, under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister of The Bahamas, Rt. Hon Hubert Ingraham.

We, the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community, meeting in Special (Emergency) Session in The Bahamas, 11-12 October, 2001, to undertake consultations on the grave situation confronting our nations as a consequence of the terrorist attacks in the United States of America on 11 September 2001 and its aftermath_

Recognise that these dastardly acts have exacerbated an incipient global economic crisis which threatened international peace and security.

Preparations for the historic Caribbean Trade, Tourism and Cultural Fair billed to run for four days in Tokyo, Japan next year, moved into high gear with the Region's processed food and beverage manufacturers, and the public and private sectors getting ready for what promises to be a grand Caribbean exposition.

The Caribbean exposition is mooted as the stepping stone to opening-up new avenues of CARICOM/Japan Cooperation, stimulating trade and investment opportunities between this Region and Japan.
