JetBlue Airways, the low-cost carrier that has become a major player in the South Florida and Caribbean market, said Thursday it plans to begin offering daily nonstop service to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, from New York and Fort-Lauderdale-Hollywood. The announcement of JetBlue’s continued expansion into the region comes as a new Haitian start-up prepares for its Mother’s Day inaugural flight from Nassau, Bahamas to Port-au-Prince.
PORTT AU PRINCE, Haiti, CMC – Former president Jean Bertrand Aristide is due to appear in court later on Wednesday to answer questions from an investigative judge into the unresolved case of a murdered radio journalist.
Journalist Jean Dominique, once a close friend to Aristide, was gunned down along with his security guard in the courtyard of his radio station in April 2000.
Police have already warned they will not tolerate any street demonstration, as Aristide, a former Roman Catholic priest who was forced out of office in 2004, makes his way to the court building.
