The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is gravely concerned by the continuing deterioration of the security situation and the social circumstances in the Republic of Haiti.

The continued breakdown in law and order, and its distressing effect on the people of Haiti, is intensifying. The fraught situation is exacerbated by the inability of the Haitian security forces to address the ongoing violence.

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is extremely saddened by the tragic loss of life at sea of a number of Haitians off the coast of The Bahamas on Sunday 24 July.

This latest disaster brings to the fore once again the desperate situation in Haiti and the reprehensible nature of the actions of those who are taking advantage of people trying to escape.

Heads of Government expressed their deep concern over the deteriorating political situation and the deepening public anxiety over citizen security in Haiti.

They took note of the Report of the United Nations Secretary General of 11 February 2021 and of the comments therein on the political and governance issues.

Heads of Government underlined the importance of respect for the rule of law and constitutional processes as laid out in the CARICOM Charter of Civil Society, and the primary responsibility of the government to this end.

Statement by the Caribbean Community on the Situation in Haiti

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) continues to monitor very closely, and views with deep concern, developments in Haiti.

The Community urges all stakeholders to be guided by the Constitution, respect for the rule of law and the electoral process and in that regard is heartened by the fact that an electoral timetable has been set.

The Community is also deeply anguished about the security situation including the actions of armed gangs which threaten the maintenance of law and order in the country and disrupt the lives and livelihoods of its citizens.

Haiti receives US$7.45-M pay-out from CCRIF_ CARICOM BUSINESS

CCRIF SPC on September 7, disbursed approximately US$7.2m to the Government of Haiti on its Excess Rainfall (XSR) parametric insurance policy following the passage of Tropical Cyclone Laura.

According to CCRIF SPC, Haiti also received a pay-out of US$290,925 under the Aggregate Deductible Cover (ADC). The total insurance pay-outs to Haiti as a result of Laura fell within the 14-day stipulation for post catastrophe payments.

CARICOM to mount fact-finding mission to Haiti

Even though the situation in Haiti is complex and there are a number of views on the way forward, it cannot continue without the intervention of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit stated on Wednesday, 19 February.

Speaking at the news briefing following the conclusion of the 31st Inter-Sessional CARICOM Summit in St. Michael, Barbados, Prime Minister Skerrit said Haiti occupied Heads of Government’s attention during Wednesday morning’s caucus discussion.

CARICOM to mount fact finding mission to Haiti

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Feb 19, CMC – Caribbean Community (CARICOM) leaders have agreed to send a fact finding mission to Haiti in a bid to finding a solution to the ongoing social and political unrest in the French-speaking CARICOM member country where opposition parties are demanding the removal of President Jovenel Moise.

CARICOM SG congratulates Haiti on 215th Independence Anniversary

CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has extended the Caribbean Community’s congratulations to Haiti on its Two Hundred and Fifteenth Anniversary of Independence, 1 January 2019, noting the continued significance of the occasion as a symbol of triumph over adversity.

Ambassador LaRocque, in his congratulatory message to Haiti’s President Jovenel Moise also said the resilience, courage and determination of Haitians continue to be an inspiration to all.

CARICOM saddened by loss of life after earthquake in Haiti

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is deeply saddened by the loss of life following the 5.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti on Sunday 7 October, 2018. At least 15 people were killed and more than 300 were injured.

In a message to Haiti President, His Excellency Jovenel Moise, CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque extended condolences the families who lost loved ones.
