Promoting and protecting the health of Caribbean children and youth goes back over six decades.  CARICOM member governments, members of the Caribbean community, stimulated and supported in many instances by the international community, have implemented a multiplicity of national and sub-regional projects over the decades to strengthen the role of schools in the discharge of this responsibility.

The Global Competitiveness Report 2014-2015, produced and published online by the World Economic Forum (WEF),  assesses the competitiveness landscape of 144 economies based on a review of twelve broad factors that affect competitiveness. The twelve are the Institutional Environment; Infrastructure; Macroeconomic Environment; Health and Primary Education; Higher Education and Learning; Goods Market Efficiency; Labour Market Efficiency; Financial Market Development; Technological Readiness; Market Size; Business Sophistication; and Innovation.

The report is meant to provide a vision for the development of the Caribbean Community to which all stakeholders can give their support. It serves as the basis for decisions by the Heads of Government on a ‘road map’ for the further
implementation of the Caricom Single Market and Economy. It is the product of an extensive process of consultation with regional stakeholders and with the relevant organs of the Community over the past two years.

The Caribbean Community, hereafter referred to as CARICOM, came into being on 1973, July 04, with the signing of the Treaty of Chaguaramas as the successor to the Caribbean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA). CARICOM was expected to extend the free trade area that had obtained in CARIFTA to include the free movement of labour and capital and the coordination of agricultural, industrial and foreign policies. The Common Market is an integral platform of CARICOM.
