As the 20th century came to a close, the Caribbean Community continued to be confronted with major challenges and urgent tasks. The changes in the international political and economic system became pronounced after the collapse of the Soviet system in 1989. The world was then configured as unipolar and characterised by a new phase of globalisation. This new phase of globalisation expressed itself in many ways.

The island's Minister for Sustainable Development, Hon. Dr. James Fletcher will chair the high-level meeting.
The Government of Saint Lucia, on Thursday 19th June 2014, will host the first meeting of a High-Level CARICOM Task Force on Sustainable Development in the Conference Room of the Ministry of the Public Service, Information and Broadcasting. 

Saint Lucia’s Minister for Public Service, Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology, Hon. James Fletcher, has been chosen by the CARICOM Secretariat to chair this high-level Regional Task Force.

This is the caricom implementation plan for the ‘regional framework for achieving development resilien t to climate change’ (the regional framework) which defines the region’s strategic approach for coping with climate change. CARICOM countries have considerable cause for concern a as the threats posed by a changing climate to their development prospects are severe and both mitigation and adaptation will require a significant and sustained investment of resources that the member states will be unable to provide on their own .

IMPACS headquarters Port – of – Spain Trinidad and Tobago_ Senior Security Officials from across the Caribbean Community met via video conference on Thursday as the CARICOM Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS) convened the First Meeting of the Steering Committee to oversee the development of the Regional Crime and Security Strategy (RCSS).

Barbados is known for its warmth and hospitality, and so we are happy to be here.

I want to welcome all here to the opening of this First Meeting of the Trade and Development Committee under the CARIFORUM-EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).

The Twenty-First Meeting of the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) on Health was convened under the theme_ Promoting Equity in Human Development through Public Health, at the Guyana International Conference Centre, Liliendaal, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, on 15 -16 April, 2011. The meeting was chaired by Dr. the Honourable Leslie Ramsammy, Minister of Health of Guyana.

The myriad issues before this Thirty-Second Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) speak to the breadth and depth of the regional integration movement and its impact on the everyday life of the citizens of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
The discussions are taking place in what continues to be a difficult environment in the Region as a result of the global economic and financial crises, although there are some positive signs of recovery with some of our Member States being able to take advantage of the upturn in the
global economy.
