CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CMC – Senior Customs and Immigration officials from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) are calling for guidelines to improve the socio-economic potential of the sub-region through the further development of the tourism industry. The 10-member team will be headed by Chief of Mission, Ambassador Rudy Collins of Guyana. Deputy Chief of Mission is Mr. Eugene Petty of St. Kitts and Nevis.

The island's Minister for Sustainable Development, Hon. Dr. James Fletcher will chair the high-level meeting.
The Government of Saint Lucia, on Thursday 19th June 2014, will host the first meeting of a High-Level CARICOM Task Force on Sustainable Development in the Conference Room of the Ministry of the Public Service, Information and Broadcasting. 

Saint Lucia’s Minister for Public Service, Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology, Hon. James Fletcher, has been chosen by the CARICOM Secretariat to chair this high-level Regional Task Force.

On behalf of the Government and people of Saint Lucia, I am pleased to welcome our regional delegates to this CARICOM – OAS – CICAD – EU supported Workshop. For the next four days, we extend to you the keys to the conference of the future as change agents to a new approach in combating drug abuse in our respective territories.

According to the Drug (Misuse) Act of 1988, the Ministry of Health, through the Substance Abuse Advisory Council Secretariat, is the focal point for the implementation of mechanisms for the control, prevention and use of drugs.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Acting Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, the Honourable Stephenson King says, his country’s commitment to the ideals of regionalism and to the deepening of the integration process of CARICOM will increase.

Speaking at the official Opening Ceremony of the Twenty-Eighth Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in Barbados on 1 July Mr King said the change of Government in Saint Lucia last December did not change the country’s “posture in relation to the Caribbean Community.

Good morning and thank you for being here today. Our delegation is pleased to be with the people of Saint Lucia and to serve as observes in the December 11th General Elections.

Our presence on the island is at the invitation of the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia; our mandate comes from CARICOM Heads of State and Government who instructed that an observer mission be present for these elections.
