The publication provides key information given the relative lack of baseline data and related time-bound objectively quantifiable targets for the sub-region, and is of particular value given the dependence on natural resources for livelihoods and well-being, and thus exposure to disruption and environmental disasters, of communities in many SIDS and developing countries in the region.

Overview

This inaugural report on the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is a first accounting of where the world stands at the start of our collective journey to 2030. The report analyses selected indicators from the global indicator frame- work for which data are available as examples to highlight some critical gaps and challenges. The list of SDG indicators agreed upon by the UN Statistical Commission in March 2016 will be subject to refinements and improvements as methods and data availability improve.

The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) have produced the most successful anti-poverty movement in history and will serve as the jumping-off point for the new sustainable development agenda to be adopted this year, according to the final MDG report launched today by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The Millennium Development Goals Report 2015 found that the 15-year effort to achieve the eight aspirational goals set out in the Millennium Declaration in 2000 was largely successful across the globe, while acknowledging shortfalls that remain.

The Caribbean Council for Science and Technology (CCST) is pleased to present, for the consideration of the leaders of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), this Regional Policy Framework for Science, Technology and Innovation (STI). It is now the only such document to be put forward by a regional body which attempts to specifically guide the region’s policy and decision-makers on building STI capacity to meet the pressing new demands of the knowledge-driven era.

The island's Minister for Sustainable Development, Hon. Dr. James Fletcher will chair the high-level meeting.
The Government of Saint Lucia, on Thursday 19th June 2014, will host the first meeting of a High-Level CARICOM Task Force on Sustainable Development in the Conference Room of the Ministry of the Public Service, Information and Broadcasting. 

Saint Lucia’s Minister for Public Service, Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology, Hon. James Fletcher, has been chosen by the CARICOM Secretariat to chair this high-level Regional Task Force.

This is the caricom implementation plan for the ‘regional framework for achieving development resilien t to climate change’ (the regional framework) which defines the region’s strategic approach for coping with climate change. CARICOM countries have considerable cause for concern a as the threats posed by a changing climate to their development prospects are severe and both mitigation and adaptation will require a significant and sustained investment of resources that the member states will be unable to provide on their own .

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Special Representative of Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Heads of Government on Haiti, the Most Honourable Percival Patterson, on Wednesday, expressed grave concerns to the United Nations Security Council that the ordinary Haitian was not feeling the impact of the recovery efforts to date.
