Prime Minister P.J. Patterson on Friday (March10) outlined the Caribbean position on current and future relations with France and its Caribbean overseas territories during a summit meeting with the French President, Jacques Chirac and Caribbean leaders at the Pointe-a-Pitre Conference Centre in Guadeloupe.
As we in the Caribbean once again join the rest of the world in commemorating the United Nations designated International Women's Day, we are all especially aware of the historic significance of this particular celebration.
Heads of State and Government of CARIFORUM, which is comprised of Caribbean Community (CARICOM) member countries, as well as Haiti and the Dominican Republic, will meet with the President of France, Jacques Chirac, at a one-day summit in Guadeloupe on 10 March, 2000. Mr. Edwin Carrington, the Secretary-General of CARICOM, who is also the Secretary-General of CARIFORUM, will also be in attendance.
The meeting is billed as the Franco-CARIFORUM Summit, and is being held at the invitation of President Chirac who will assume the Presidency of the European Union later this year.

Youth representatives of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will meet in Trinidad and Tobago next week to address a number of issues affecting their daily lives under the theme "Human Rights, Freedoms, and Responsibilities."
